Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – February 29, 2016

Bow-TieHi everyone,

My job for Cat Depot and the cat world is to help special needs cats.

Cat Depot’s Friends Like Me Fund is my cause.

It helps these special felines, and I spread the word far and near.

This weekly blog helps spread that word.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – January 25, 2016

Bow-Tie shows his cute pawsRight up front, let me tell you I hope I didn’t put my foot in my mouth.

Courage has been begging me to write the blog one week.

So, this week I said yes, since she attended an event alone.

Be patient with her…

…she’s young…

Hi Everybody!

It’s me, Courage!

Courage wearing a sweater

Bow-Tie is letting me write about my adventure this weekend, so here goes.

It was cold – by Florida standards – so I got my sweater on and waited to leave.

We were headed to an event in Fort Myers for the benefit of dogs.

Courage and Nancy ColbyWhen we got there it was really windy, but I was so happy to be there.

Courage at Purses for PoochesThe event was called Purses for Pooches.

People bid on designer purses and all the money went to help dogs in need.

I checked them all out.

Since I couldn’t see them I had to use the touch-and-smell method.

Wait until you see the one I picked to bid on!

Courage checking out raffle itemsThere were a lot of raffle items too.

This one smells like I’m too young for what’s in the bottle.

Courage meets a dogThere were dogs there for adoption, but this little guy already has a home.

His name is Jackson.

Courage waiting for lunchThere was a nice lunch served…

…obviously I was a little early for the food.

Courage ready to place a bidWhen the bidding was about to begin, I got my paddle all ready.

We were number 76, and there was one item we were not going to miss.

We bid and bid, and finally won.

It was the priceless purse Mighty Lou gave Lily exactly one year ago at the same event.

Mighty Lou and Lily

We just had to bring it back home, to honor Mighty Lou and help the dogs.

Courage checking out her new purseIt’s beautiful and sparkly.

Inside there was a gift certificate to Petco, so I can get some treats.

Wait! Wait!

Uh oh…

Courage is stuck in the purse

Bow-TieAnd right there, folks…

…you have the reason why I will be writing the blog next week.

Thanks, Courage

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – June 15, 2015

Dear Friends,

Hope your week was a good one. I’ve been out on the road talking it up about special Bow-Tie at Cleanersneeds cats. My first order of business was getting my wardrobe in tip top shape. I took my laundry over to my favorite cleaners for some much needed attention.

They say no cat has ever brought bow ties, or anything else for that matter, in to be cleaned. What are they doing then? I am a dapper gent and want to look spiffy at all times. Am I wrong?

Bow-Tie Inspects the laundry

I even asked for a boost up to inspect them closer. After the sniff test to make sure they were fresh, I gave my paw of approval.

Bow-Tie Approves of his clean bow ties

The finished product was bagged, tagged and delivered. Wonderful service and wonderful handling of those precious bow ties.

Bow-Tie wants to help pets in need

When it was time to pay I noticed something on the counter.
My cleaners supports local pets in need, especially cats! They particularly help bad situations like I was in. I had to help them help the others. So I gave them what I had………

Bow-Tie donates his precious crinkle ball to help cats in need

…I gave them one of my precious crinkle balls. It hurt me a little to give something up but then it felt so good knowing I was helping.

Humans have money they can give to help. I don’t really understand money being more valuable than a crinkle ball, but I hear it is.

We need to continue to tell them to give those pennies, nickles and dollars to help cats. (Donate to Friends Like Me) Look where I came from and where I am. Every penny counts. Am I right?

So that was my adventure earlier this week. Then I donned a clean bow tie and hit the streets but more on that next week. For right now…………….

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – June 8, 2015

Dear Whitey and Friends,

Let me just start you out with a test…..

Bow-Tie's Choppers

See those choppers?

And see those other choppers?

What’s the difference???

Bow-Tie doesn't have any teeth

The difference, my friend, is one has teeth and one doesn’t.

One guess which is which.

Bow-Tie's Selfie

I took a selfie to prove my point…………

Took this one hour after I woke up from a three hour induced sleep.

Note the glassy eyes and druggy stare.

They pulled all of my teeth out with the exception of six on the top. What I’m going to do with those, I don’t know. I guess I can gnash some corn on the cob.

When I got home, I was happy but a little unable to control my actions.

Bow-Tie and his favorite toy

I ran over to my favorite toy. But once I got it in my mouth I forgot where I was again. I sat there for a long, long time seemingly engaged in a drug induced fixation.

That passed then the next couple of days were filled with soft food and more drugs.

Bow-Tie says No to Drugs

By day three I “Just Said NO”…….
No more meds for me!

Tomorrow I’ll go back to the doctor and get my medical release. I have had to lay low here a while until I was declared medically sound to hit the road. I’m excited and I’m thankful you have my back, Whitey.

So, here I go……….
Bow-Tie is on the Path

I’m on the path.

I see the light before me.

I’m ready to fill the might paws set before me.

Bow-Tie’s Gift Arrives!

Dear Whitey,

You surprised me! A package arrived yesterday addressed to me so I started to rip it open. If you have ever tried to rip something open with no teeth and a mouth full of stitches you would appreciate how unsuccessful that was. So my mom opened it. And there it was…..
Bow-Tie Wears His New Tie from Whitey Wobbles

…my very special tie from my very special friend!

I love it and I know I’m quite handsome in it. Right? It will be my very special bow tie for special events.

Thank you very much for sending it. And thank you for being my friend.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – May 26, 2015

Dear Whitey and Friends,

Bow-Tie is Patriotic for Memorial Day

End of another week (or start of a new one). It’s Memorial Day Weekend so I have gone red, white and blue. Pretty dapper, don’t you think?

My head has always been a bit too big for my body. I was just made that way, but I’m cute, right? And then I’ve got that ear thing………..oh well.

I’ve been having a lot of new adventures since I have a happy home now. For one, I eat regularly and I eat cat food. Do you know that I used to just eat junk off the floor including bugs? Yuck.

I’m also getting really healthy. You know how I know that? I’ve been going to the vet. Never knew a vet before either. Imagine that. However….I’m not necessarily a fan of the vet.

Bow-Tie enjoys rides in the car

Car rides are fun so I’m always ready to go. This particular car ride was less fun than usual.

Bow-Tie gets his weigh-in

It ended with me being put on a scale in the vet’s office. It showed I’m still a bit underweight but I’m working on that.

Bow-Tie Waits at the Vet

Then I got put in a room alone to wait. Wait? For what or for who?

Bow-Tie gets his blood pressure taken

Uh oh. This is not a good look on The Dapper Gent. The numbers were ticking away. Don’t they know our blood pressure goes up by just putting that thing on us? Turns out my blood pressure is purrfect!

Bow-Tie and the Thermometer

This looks like a loving embrace, right? I do not even want to tell you what someone else was sticking into my other end at this very moment. But, the result was that my temperature was normal so I guess it had to be done.

Bow-Tie gets checked out by the vet

My purrsonal physician came in to check my heart. When I was at Cat Depot I had what they call a heart murmur. That’s not good. But she kept listening and listening. The heart murmur is gone! She said I was anemic before and that may have caused it. All of the things that were wrong with me before are getting better now.

Oh Whitey, we need to work really hard to help all cats get homes and good care. I know that has always been your mission. Now that I’m working with you, we can both work really hard. Part of my mission will also be to rescue cats from hoarding homes.
Bow-Tie gets a nail trim

Whitey, when they come at you with those clippers, just relax. If you fight, it takes longer. I just let them do it and it was over before I knew it.

Bow-Tie like the vet techs

The ladies were all really nice to me. I have never had this much care before. We want to make sure I’m healthy and strong before I go out onto the streets and get to work. The mighty paws left before me need to keep walking. I’m almost fully healed and able to take on the task.

In the meantime, I’m working on Facebook and have a lot of friends and fans. The legacy of Friends Like Me will go on and be stronger than ever.

I know you’ll help me. We can get all of our cat friends into loving homes.

For now though I need to get over the big adventure at the vet…..
Bow-Tie says going to the vet ain't for sissies!

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin 5/18/15

Hi Whitey and Friends,

I’m still new at this but I’m excited about my weekly blog. This week I’ll tell the story of my final days at Cat Depot. What a great place, huh? We all like it there but it doesn’t compare to a real, furever home.

Bow-Tie Fills Out His Adoption Paperwork

My last day there was a happy one. Wonderful Miss Marianne filled out the paperwork for my adoption. She had a smiley face, didn’t she? I know I always look a little grumpy but that’s because of my folded ear. It makes me look a little crabby, but I’m not.

Bow-Tie is grateful to Dr. Jill Kirk

Dr. Kirk was really good to me and helped heal most of my wounds. I’ll tell you, that hoarding environment is brutal on us. In the weeks to come I’ll talk more about it but for now I try not to think about it. Anyway, Dr. Kirk came to give me a final tummy rub. I’m a sucker for a good tummy rub.

Even in my very first days there, I would roll over and welcome a rub. Everyone thought it was so cute. Me?  I just wanted the attention and the loving.

Bow-Tie and his favorite Cat Depot Volunteer, John

One of my favorite volunteers honored me in a big way. His name is John and he likes to paint. Look at that painting he did of me! It’s fantastic. John came to say his final good-bye, too. Did I mention I also like chin rubs?

Bow-Tie meets with Terri Gagliardi to discuss his blog

Miss Terri wanted to meet with me before I left. She does the blog so she wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing. She approved me taking it over so I have to do a good job. She is really nice so I gave her a nice head butt.

By then it was time to go and I was anxious to start my new life.

Bow-Tie says goodbye to Buddy

Buddy is still waiting for his furever home so I said good-bye and good luck to him.

Did you know I was missing my tail? You can see it here. Yep, I’m missing a tail, an ear and lots of teeth. Oh well, I have a big heart to make up for the missing pieces. (kitty laugh)

Bow-Tie said farewell to his friends at Cat Depot and headed home with his mom

So there you have my final day at Cat Depot. May all the cats there be as lucky as I am to find a furever home. And may they all drive away into the sunshine and live happy lives. Like me!

Thanks for being my new friends!

Love,
Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin

Dear Friends,

Well here we go. It’s Bow-Tie here and this is my first blog.

Meet Bow-Tie

I’ve picked up the magic wand and I’m ready to go. I know I have Mighty big paws to fill but I will do my very best to help special needz cats. And to carry on the very important work of Friends Like Me.

Please don’t be surprised if I spell sum things wrong. I never used a computer before. I never really used anything before becuz I had a very, very bad life before Cat Depot rescued me.

Bow-Tie came from a hoarding situation

My life was in a hoarder’s house. That will be part of what I talk about when I go into the public. It’s important that people know cats suffer there and it must be stopped. But…….for today I’m just going to let you know I’m on the job and I’m excited about starting my new life and new job.

Bow-Tie's First Gig

We went on a trial run to see if could behave in public. Of course I behaved in public. I’m on the way to a healthy, happy life and I’ll do everything I can to be worthy. My real name is Bow-Tie (remember the dash for uniqueness). My title is The Dapper Gent (wonder why??)

Bow-Ties' Name Tags have been engraved

My name is now official….

Name tags were printed with my name on them. I oversaw the work myself.

So by formal announcement and introduction, Bow-Tie is on the job. Whitey Wobbles and I are still on the path to help special needs cats, and all cats. I’m on it and I’m getting all ready to go out to educate the public so they help us.
Bow-Tie is a small kitty taking on a big job

I’m very small and it’s a long journey. But every journey starts with a small step. I was not able to walk well when I got to Cat Depot but I can walk now. So walk I will, to fill those Mighty paws and continue the good work.

In the meantime……

Bow-Tie is safe and comfy in his new home

I’m just very thankful I am clean, fed and loved. We need to work really hard to help every cat feel such security and safety.

Until next time, my new friends,

Bow-Tie, The Dapper Gent

Mighty Lou Gets His Last Word

Dear Whitey and Friends,

I’ve made a decision. There is a lot of work for this Caped Crusader to do up here on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I need to start concentrating on getting things in order up here. There are so many beloved pets here that need me to look after them. If you know any of the humans who have lost pets, please tell them they are well and happy now. They’re with me and we’re all OK and waiting for our humans.

That said, this will be my last blog, Dude. It has been a wonderful life for me.

Mighty Lou's early days at Cat Depot

My very early days at Cat Depot saw me sporting a sign about my diabetes. Not sure why I’m wearing flowers but it was all good. That little adornment led to my real adornment…..the cape.

Mighty Lou's original cape

This is my original cape given to me by your mom. It’s the one that matches yours. Of course that lead to a whole wardrobe of capes through the years. Happily all the capes were auctioned off and brought donations to Cat Depot. But this one started it all and my mom has it.

Mighty Lou loved blogging

I loved my work especially my association with Cat Depot and my all important blogging.

Mighty Lou Central

It’s an honor to have a room at Cat Depot named in my memory. Of course it’s the Executive Director’s office since I always wanted to be in charge. “Mighty Lou Central” was dedicated on Sunday.

My friends and fans participated in a celebration of my life. So many people continue to follow me and love me. I am truly touched.

There is still so much work to do for special needs cats. I cannot be there to go out and talk to people like I did before. I need actual paws on the ground to continue my good work. So, in the next week you will see my successor step into my role. He is also a special needs guy and he’s ready to take on the challenge. He’s young and inexperienced but he has a story and needs that make him special. He will carry on the legacy of Mighty Lou and Friends Like Me.

I’ll let him introduce himself later this week but here’s a sneak preview…..

Mighty Lou's Successor has serious eyes

Look at those eyes. He’s serious about his work and he will carry on my vision.

So I leave you and go to work up here. I’ll be there in spirit for you everyday. Remember me as I remember you.

The plaque above Mighty Lou Central says “He lived, He loved and He did it his way.” And I did.

Migjhty Lou, Caped Crusader

Thank you everyone.

Love,
Mighty Lou, Caped Crusader

Whitey’s Final Word to Mighty Lou

To my best friend in the whole world, Mighty Lou…

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking since you sent me your final word. You are doing the right thing, good buddy. You need to tend to business on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I can handle things here. Don’t worry…I will carry on as if you were here; working hard for all our friends at Cat Depot and especially the special needs kitties.

You and I had a good run, but it is time to move on. I have made the decision to retire my cape. It just doesn’t feel right to wear it without you here.

Whitey Wobbles wears his cape for the last time

I will work just as hard and I know you will be sending me extra powers. So for now, this is it…the last time I will wear this cape.

Whitey Wobbles

From the Files of Mighty Lou – 4/27/15

Hi Whitey and Friends,

Writing that got me to thinking about friends. Friends are what it’s about, right? If you have friends you have a happy life. I was lucky enough to have a lot of friends and that made me happy. Everyone is different and we can’t judge our friends for their difference.  For instance…..

Mighty Lou has lots of friends

We can’t judge our friends if they look a little kooky. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Little Girl has a grip on Mighty Lou

Sometimes our friends hold us a little too tight. But they love us so we let them hang on……..all in the name of love.

Mighty Lou and dressed-up doggie

We should always tell our friends they look pretty……..even if they are a little over the top. That just makes them unique.

Mighty Lou and monkey friend

And when our friends are less attractive than others, we need to love them even more. When others look away or treat them bad, we need to love them even more. They are just like us on the inside.

Mighty Lou and Lily

And, when we find that extra special someone, we need to be the kindest of all. We need to make sure they get our best. Even when our best means we can’t touch their food even if they don’t eat it as fast as us. Know what I mean?

Whitey Wobbles is Mighty Lou's Best Friend

Whitey, you are my best friend, my caped buddy. Carry on my mission to help cats especially those with special needs.

Mighty Lou's Kitten friends

Tell all the humans that cats make the best friends. Tell them there are always too many cats waiting for too few homes. (The similarity in looks to mine is purely coincidental)

Tell them to go to Cat Depot and pick out a best friend. Thank you, my friend.

Love,
Mighty Lou, Caped Crusader
