Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – June 1, 2015

Dear Whitey,

I got your note about a special bond between us. The idea of a special bow tie to bond us is exciting. As you know, my bow ties are very special to me….
Bow-Tie loves modeling his ties

….and I like modeling my ties.

Facebook has been working for me and lots of fans are already my close friends. Two of them said they will be sending me something (ties, I’m sure).

My A#1 Fan already sent me a very special dinner tie.

As soon as I start going into public, you’ll see that one when I go out for lunch.

Bow-Tie likes his new green tie

A nice lady named Linda just started volunteering at Cat Depot. She wrote me wanting to make me a whole wardrobe of bow ties. This is the first one she sent me to make make sure it fits. It fits just great and I’m so happy to have it.

Why haven’t I been out in the public much yet? My mission to help special needs cats is all planned. The reason I’ve been a little inactive publicly is because I’m still on the mend health-wise.

They should not call it a hoarding house, they should call it a horror house. The toll it takes on us cats is bad. But I’m almost completely healthy, sturdy, willing and certainly handsome enough to start working. My ears will probably always need medicine (that’s ok). I may always sneeze and need saline up my nose (icky, but that’s ok).

My ear and tail? Well, haven’t found them yet (kitty snicker).

The last important issue at hand? Look at this…..

Bow-Tie shows his missing teeth

Notice anything? See that other big tooth that isn’t there? Just one of several that have left me. My teeth are rotted almost all the way down to the roots.

Sooooo…….tomorrow I am having dental surgery. Prognosis is that they may all come out. But…..I can still gum caviar, lobster and other tasty morsels. I may even get better care and fancier food if I act unable to eat regular stuff! (another kitty snicker)

Bow-Tie is anxiously awaiting his new bowtie from Whitey Wobbles

Thanks for thinking of me and encouraging me on my very special mission. I will be waiting by the mailbox to see what you’re sending me. Get your mom to go to the post office first thing in the morning, you’re too short to reach the counter. (last kitty snicker)

Your friend,
Bow-Tie

Files Mighty Lou Left Behind

Hi Whitey,

If you’re reading this, I’m not here anymore but my spirit and my humor will live for ever. You help people remember me and always remember my mission, to help special needs cats.

Since you’re my closest feline friend and my caped buddy, I’m going to share some “outtakes” from some of my blogs. I only liked to show my best to my public, but I don’t mind letting you see the behind the scenes misadventures.

This is from the time I met Jackson Galaxy, Cat Daddy. He was really smitten with me and I know he’ll remember me forever.

Mighty Lou trying on his Jackson Galaxy cap

Being fit for that bald head was something. It seemed a little heavy at first.

Mighty Lou is falling over

When I got my glasses on, the whole thing started to list to the right.

An off moment for Mighty Lou

I knew I had to turn this around. No way was I going to let my public see me struggle with a stupid bald head.

Finally got her going in the right direction.

This is what the public saw. The other ones made you laugh, didn’t they?

You help keep my humor alive, man.

Mighty Lou Gets the Final Word

Dear Friends,

I just took another adventure. This was my final adventure. I passed over the Rainbow Bridge last night. Please don’t be sad, I don’t want that. What I want is for you to remember me for my Mightiness and my caped strength.

Mighty Lou's Final Blog

I was special needs and my second chance at life was special.

Mighty Lou had many adventures

The world is a big place. It’s frightening for a cat on their own. But the lucky ones who are saved and given a second chance get to enjoy it. I wanted to make a mark on this new world I was given and worked hard to do that.

I charted my own course and enjoyed every ride. My mission was to show people that special needs cats are indeed special. We may take extra effort, but we’re so worth it.

Mighty Lou Loved to Make People Laugh

My way of showing people that was to make them laugh. You just laughed, didn’t you? Good. I don’t want you to be sad.

Mighty Lou Loved a Party

No one loved a good party more than me! Bad Legs?  What bad legs. I could shake it up pretty good!

Mighty Lou and Jackson Galaxy

I wasn’t intimidated by anyone. Jackson Galaxy thinks he’s somebody? He’s met his match in me.

Mighty Lou on the Radio

I wasn’t intimidated by public speaking either. If I could get a chance to talk about special needs, I was there. When Mighty Lou speaks they listen (take that, E.F.Hutton).

Mighty Lou was committed to raising funds for special needs cats

My mission was always to promote adoption, support and love for special needs. I did what I could whenever I could to help Friends Like Me.

Mighty Lou admiring Mighty Lou

Of course I did it the Mighty Lou way because no one admired me more than me!

Mighty Lou on the cover of Sarasota Pet Magazine

Except when it was the entire population admiring me….

Mighty Lou in his Tuxedo

No one liked a party more me. And, by the way, no one looked better in a tux than me.

Mighty Lou in his lion costume

Actually, I looked good in just about anything.

Mighty Lou weathered many storms

I weathered all kinds of storms in my life……but I did it with my Mighty Lou smile and those piercing eyes.

Mighty Lou fought many battles

I fought battles in my life. Not the battle of special needs but the battle to get humans to love us as we are. I was one of the very lucky ones to be so loved by so many.

So I leave some parting words for humans everywhere. Please consider opening your heart to a special needs animal. Special needs simply means they need a little extra. In exchange they give so much more back.

The Mighty Lou legacy will go on.
Friends Like Me will go on.
My love for you will go on.

Mighty Lou at Computer

Thank you for reading my blog and letting me share my Mighty Lou-isms. I enjoyed it.

Remember me with a smile. Keep the memory, humor and uniqueness of Mighty Lou alive.

I loved you all.

Painting is exhausting work!

Lou in artroomI had to work all day on Saturday. My mom was giving an animal painting workshop and of course she needed my help. We got there early so I could be on hand to greet everyone. They all took their seats and set up their paintings. I made sure everyone was in the right seat. And of course I made sure they saw me.

Lou head of roomAfter everyone saw me and the purrfection which is Mighty Lou, I chose the seat more fitting the Caped Crusader. I went right to the head table. The head of the class is the place for me. I can see everything from here and supervise them all.
Lou demo

Mom gave demos for people and they all came up to “my” table. They were all watching the demo, but I was being ignored. Mighty Lou will not be ignored!
Lou on artwork

You can get all the attention if you just spread yourself out on top of the demo and stop the whole thing!

Lou with photoMy mom talked to the group about understanding the photo reference before painting it. Hey I wanted to learn too, so I got a close-up look.

Lou drinking paint waterThis was a watercolor class so they had to use a lot of water. But if a guy’s thirsty. . . ….a guy has to get a drink and the painting has to wait. Am I right??

Lou and little friend

There were a few visitors who came into the class to see what was going on. This was my favorite one. She picked that brush up and just started petting me with it. She especially liked my glasses. I liked that she pronounced my name “MY-t-lu”. Everyone loves Mighty Lou.

Lou with paint brushFinally, as it always happens, I had to show the humans how things should be done. It’s always Mighty Lou who has to step in to get the job done. This painting workshop was no exception. It takes the Caped Crusader to get it done right . . . So I grabbed the brush and got the job done.

Lou sleepingIt was a long and tiring day.

Until next week, my friends.

Mighty Lou Girls’ Day Out

Hi Whitey,

Remember I told you I was escorting Lily to an event? Well, that happened yesterday. It was called Purses for Pooches and raised money to help animals. There was a luncheon, a purse fashion show and purses auctioned.

Me? I was one of two or three men there, but my Lily needed me so I went.

Mighty Lou and his Mother-in-Law

First thing I had to do was confer with my mother-in-law. She was running the registration table but she needed a little Mighty Lou advice to start her day.

Mighty Lou watches over Lily

Once I got her under control I moved on to other things needing my attention. Most important was guarding my Lily as she slept. She took a moment out to get a beauty catnap and I made sure no one bothered her.

Mighty Lou checks out the table setting

Next on the agenda was to check and make sure our table was set properly. I made sure we had a table with nice people.

These ladies loved your old Mighty Lou and spent a lot of time adoring me. They were really nice and they have cats. One of the ladies has a special needs cat so we had a lot in common. Take a look at the special needs kitties in my Friends Like Me Program.

Mighty Lou Doesn't Like Iced Tea

Lunch was being served…

…but I didn’t mind. I just let the waiters serve around me.

Not a real fan of iced tea.

MIghty Lou prefers Bottled Water in his own bowll

I prefer bottled water in my own bowl, but thank you anyway.

Mighty Lou says "Real Cats eat Quiche"

Lunch was a nice salad and quiche. Yes, real cats eat quiche! But my Aunt Mary gave me some turkey, too.

Mighty Lou and his mom wear matching shades

It was a little overcast when the day started but the sun came out soon enough. Mom and I wore our matching shades.

Mighty Lou Window Shops for Lily at Saks

The real reason I attended this event was to be with Lily. She was one of the purse models on stage so I had some waiting time. I did a little window shopping for something for Lily. I thought I would get her something nice to remember the day.

Mighty Lou finds Saks prices too steep

Upon closer inspection of the prices, I was forced to say….

”No thanks, Saks!”

Mighty Lou and Lola

Miss Tracey is the President of the Board for Lily’s organization. I met her dog, Lola, in front of Saks. Pretty cute for a dog.

Mighty Lou and his bride, Lily

Enough of this waiting. It was time to do what I came to do; give my Lily a gift to remember this day. We picked a quiet place, away from all the fashion show activity. She was pretty in pink and tickled pink to see me!

Lily is pretty in pink

There she is, my little cutie. I have her a pretty pink purse, just her size. And I gave her a locket for her pretty neck. It has my picture in it so I will always be close to her heart. Doesn’t she look pretty?

Mighty Lou prefers monster trucks

All in all it was a great day. But I’ll tell ya, Dude – girly fashion shows and quiche are not much for the man in me. I liked it because Lily was there. But next time she’s going with me to a monster truck show or something!

Am I right?

Until next week!

Glamour Puss

Hi Whitey,

It’s only the first week in the new year and I am already back to work. This week there’s a big fancy gig in town and they can’t do without your old Mighty Lou. It’s a fashion show called Catwalk on the Boulevard. Guess who is going to be one of the models?

But of course!

Since I am now adding modeling to my very lengthy resume, I decided to go out and get some glamour puss shots for my portfolio. You know, the kind of shots those fancy pants cats always get. Ready?

MIghty Lou's Formal Pose

Here’s my formal pose…..

You just gasped at my beauty, didn’t you?

Mighty Lou Poses While Wearing his Glasses

Here’s another:

This is more me, with my glasses on. The photographer is used to taking pictures of fancy pants cats. He never saw any other cat wear glasses. He was quite intrigued with me.

I had to give him a little bit of my Mighty Lou-ness, just for fun…..

Mighty Lou Makes a funny face

I quite like this one, but he didn’t.

Back to business….

Mighty Lou's Lying Down Pose

Handsome is as handsome does. And I do it quite well if I don’t say so myself.

This event is Friday, January 9th at the Hyatt Regency in Sarasota. Cat Depot will be represented. I hear tell there will be a few cats on leashes strutting their stuff. There’s also a rumor that Miss Terri from Cat Depot will be a model. She’s cool. She works for me doing my blog.

Mighty Lou's Serious Pose

Here’s another more serious shot but I gave it a little head tilt for fun.

I never know when my next opportunity will pop up but I’m ready now. Mighty Lou is versatile and ready at a moment’s notice.

I’ll report back on the event. Hopefully the cats that are coming from Cat Depot will find new homes. And Cat Depot will get good exposure to a new audience. Isn’t that why we all work so hard?

Enjoy your week, Dude!

Mighty Lou at Jingle Paws Jubilee and PawPurr’s Walk

Hi Again Whitey,

I am dead tired but I wanted to get this out to you before I went to bed. Today was Jingle Paws Jubilee and I was hard at work on the PawPurr’s Walk portion of the day.

Mighty Lou has Whitey Wobbles' Picture at PawPurr's Walk for Cape Support

First stop was Cat Depot Walker Registration tent. Your mom put a picture of you in the booth so I would have cape support. Nice touch.

Mighty Lou checks out the bagels at PawPurr's Walk

Right off the bat the day took a happy turn. Did somebody say “bagels”?? Silly humans thought it was funny to see me root through the assortment. Hey, I’m here to entertain!

Mighty Lou holds a quick staff meeting

But then it turned serious. The walkers were just about to start arriving and we had to spring into action. Time to get the staff in line…..

Who knows what would have happened had I not taken the lead and got them into shape. Every one of them sprang to attention when your ol’ Mighty Lou spoke!

Mighty Lou spends time with his friend Jeff

I found time to have a quiet moment with an old friend. Jeff was always there for me in my Cat Depot days. We have a special bond and were happy to reconnect and talk guy stuff.

Mighty Lou meets Ruggles

I was all set to head over to the starting line when I got stopped by another fan. This is Ruggles. We had a nice little stare down but neither of us meant anything. He’s cool.

Mighty Lou at PawPurr's Walk

Then the walk was beginning. Your mom made sure you went with us. Thanks for going, Dude. We all made it around the whole track.

Mighty Lou learns to skateboard

After a successful walk, I deserved some alone time. But that was quickly thwarted by some teenagers. However………..I rather enjoyed this distraction. They introduced me to a new pastime……..skateboarding!

They marveled at my steadiness and uncanny ability. Ahhh, I have gained the admiration of the youth!

Mighty Lou relaxes after PawPurr's Walk

All in all, it was one very tiring day, my friend. The reward at the end was to come home, drop into my bed and find a gift from you. Thanks Dude! I love it. Great ending to my day.

Until next time. I am…

Mighty Lou at Jingle Paws Jubilee and PawPurr’s Walk

Hi Whitey,

Yes I’m writing you mid-week but I’m all excited about this weekend.

Sunday, December 7th is the big Jingle Paws Jubilee event!

Bigger news than that is Cat Depot’s 1st PawPurr’s Walk featuring none other than…………

Mighty Lou has his walking shoes ready for PawPurr's Walk

My cape is flying high over this one! People can come from 11 a.m. to noon and walk with or without their dog – I know, but it is a dog event.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. If they walk, they get a goodie bag and a t-shirt! And guess what the best part is? It’s only $20 to go on the walk and all of the money goes to help our feline friends at Cat Depot!

Yes, sir, I’m in………….

Mighty Lou at Payne Park

I’m already waiting at the starting line here in Payne Park. Got my walking shoes ready. I’m small, but I’m mighty.

I know you have been working to get sponsors for the walk. Good going. Think of it, for only $20 people can get great exercise and help cats!

Besides the walk, Jingle Paws Jubilee offers lots of pet-related vendors, food, music and fun! Dogs are welcome even if they are not walking.

Mighty Lou and his walking shoes

Ol’ Mighty Lou loves a good party and this one is going to be huge!

I’ve got a job at the registration table. Everyone who registers to walk gets to meet me in purrson. That alone should bring in a crowd!

So keep working on those sponsors for the walk. Keep telling people to go to www.catdepot.org for information on the walk and the event.

They can also go to www.jinglepawsjubilee.com and see great pictures, maps and lots of information.

Remember to tell people there will be several shelter groups there with adoptable dogs and cats wanting a home for Christmas. And there will be a lot of vendors selling pet-related things for pet owners and friends of pet owners. Purrfect Christmas shopping event!

Mighty Lou can't wait for PawaPurr's Walk on Sunday December 7, 2014

Payne Park is in Sarasota on Route 301 four blocks South of Fruitville Road. I found it so it’s easy to get to. The time is 11 am – 5 pm. It’s a free event for the whole family!

Mighty Lou’s Shopping Weekend

Hey Whitey,

So have you heard about Black Friday? And have you heard about all of the craziness that’s going along with it? Humans get themselves worked up about some of the craziest things. But I do love events so I actually went out there myself.

Mighty Lou Checks out the food aisle

Of course I headed right for the food aisle. Checking prices gets tiring though. There’s so much to read.

MightyLouCheckout

I got a couple of things and gave the store guy a thrill. This is one of those “big box” stores and it was crowded.

Mighty Lou at his favorite small store

I chose to go on over to my favorite small business since it was Small Business Saturday. Over here I get a lot more opportunity to be mighty and go wherever I want.

Mighty Lou gets treats

They’ve got good treats over here.

Mighty Lou Noses Around his Favorite Store

There are so many things to check out.

Mighty Lou isn't picky about his treats

So many of the things they have are for dogs. But I’m not proud. If it tastes good, I’m for it.

I like to sit up here on the counter and let the dogs on the floor watch me eat their food. The pool of drool grows and I like irritating them.

I did have to pick up one item of importance though. There was an unfortunate incident in my carrier last week. One of my sisters had to go to the vet and she used it. Let’s just say her body was empty when the got there but the carrier was full. Mighty Lou will not use soiled merchandise. I am a caped crusader who needs proper equipment.

Mighty Lou gets a new carrier

So I got a nice new carrier. It’s purple to match my carriage. No girls allowed in this one!

All in all it was a good trip. Miss Nancy who owns the store, Cats n’ Dogs, donated 500 items for the goodie bags we’re giving away at next weekend’s PawPurr’s Walk Event. She also gave me several items for the raffle.

Mighty Lou is ready for the First PawPurr's Walk on December 7, 2014

It’s going to be such an exciting event I plan on writing a mid-week blog so watch for that. In the meantime, keep promoting Jingle Paws and PawPurr’s Walk on December 7th at Payne Park. Huge, exciting and benefitting animals in need! My cape is flying high for this event, Dude!

Tell everyone to get their walking shoes on and get over to Payne Park next Sunday. I’ll be there. What more do they need?? Registration is just $20 and benefits Cat Depot Cats.

Happy Week, My Friend!

Dear Whitey,

Guess where I am? You will never guess. I’ll just have to tell you.

Mighty Lou at WENG Radio in Englewood

I’m over here at WENG Radio in Englewood waiting to go on the air. The radio station asked for your Ol’ Mighty Lou to help the humans again. We are going on to talk about Jingle Paws which is coming up on December 7th. That’s the big event put on by my friend Candace of Sarasota Pet Magazine.

Mighty Lou on the cover of Sarasota Pet Magazine

Of course you know her and remember that ever-famous cover….

She’ll be talking about the event and all the great things going on. Miss Lynn from Cat Depot will be there, too, and she’ll be talking about PawPurr’s Walk. That’s the portion of the day sponsored by Cat Depot for the benefit of our kitty friends there. A wonderful portion of the event.

Great work, Dude!

Mighty Lou on WENG Radio Englewood

Listen for me. I’ll give you a special Mighty Lou shout out!

Have a good week, my friend.

Mighty Lou, Caped Crusader

Hey Mighty Lou,

I can hardly wait until tomorrow morning to hear you on the radio! I have been telling everyone I know to listen in.

I have had quite a week. This friendraiser stuff is fun, but tiring! I walked my little paws off trying to get as many sponsors as I can. I’m up to 18 now! My Mom agreed to walk 1 mile for each one, so she is going to be exhausted! She said she will walk the week before PawPurr’s Walk cause she will be working registration with your Mom. This event is going to be BIG for Cat Depot! I heard they are also going to try to find “forever” home for 100 cats and kittens. Isn’t that awesome, dude?

Whitey Wobbles in his tux for Mighty Lou's Wedding

Hey, I want you to see my new tux…it’s for your upcoming wedding to Lily. My Mom calls it a harness, but with my bowtie, it’s a tux  Get a good night’s sleep tonight and don’t forget to give me a shout out!

Your bud,
Whitey

Hey Mighty Lou…it’s me again!

Jake and Cody

I forgot to send this picture of my friend’s Jake & Cody. They are both Cat Depot cats who found their forever home about 5 yrs. ago. They are both sponsoring me for the PawPurr’s walk.

Notice the blankets they are sleeping on. Ms. Peggy taught my Mom how to make them so she made them for Jake and Cody! These guys are really cool and they really are brothers. Pretty nice that they were adopted together, don’t you think? Their Mom & Dad continue to support Cat Depot because they learned how awesome it is!

Well, that’s it for this week.
