Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – July 24, 2017

Bow-Tie is sadDear Friends,

It was a sad week in our household.

Monet and BuddyMy sister who lives in the studio went over the Rainbow Bridge.

It was beautiful Monet’s time to cross the bridge.

We all said a tearful good-bye.

Buddy Van Gogh was her life-long studio friend.

He found himself alone and sad.

Red with her new toyLucky for Buddy I have friends at Cat Depot who stepped up to help him heal.

I contacted my good friend Marianne, and Whitey Wobbles Mom.

They work in Adoptions.

They helped pick out just the right new friend for Buddy Van Gogh.

Meet Rembrandt Red.

Her name was already Red (a good color name for a studio cat.)

We added the Rembrandt part to make her even more artsy.

She settled in right away with a new toy.

Red with a brushShe’s a bit of a character.

Toys weren’t enough.

She stole a brush right off the art table.

Red with string and BuddyBuddy Van Gogh accepted her right away.

He finds her both silly and entertaining.

Red and Buddy eatingCat Depot sent her home with some kitty food.

It is different than what Buddy Van Gogh had, so he’s enjoying a new taste.

Red with a brushThanks for making our home and hearts happy again, Rembrandt Red!

Bow-Tie with his heart bow tieThe moral of the story?

A tiny little ball of fur can help heal hearts.

I’m wearing my heart bow tie.

See what I did there?

I made you smile at the end of the story!

It’s what I do.

Have a happy week everyone!

Love,

Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie wants you to guess where he is.Hi Everybody!

Guess where I am.

This may be too close to guess.

I’ll pull back a bit.

Bow-Tie cute in the umbrellaHow’s this?

Now you can see i’m in an umbrella.

It has been raining so much here, I’ve had to stay inside and create my own fun.

Bow-Tie and the foil ballThe best game started by accident.

I was playing with my foil ball and happened to pass the open umbrella.

It was sheer fate that made me drop it into the open umbrella.

To my amazement, it rolled around on the slanted surface!

Bow-Tie plays with the foil ballOkay… Game on!

The foil ball was in constant motion once I realized the power of one good swat.

It bounced right back to me each time I hit it.

Bow-Tie jumps into the umbrellaSometimes I played sneak attack.

That started the umbrella spinning, and was the most fun of all.

The foil ball, the umbrella, and I all spun around in delight.

Bow-Tie cute with his foil ballI think it’s a good test of character if you like to spend time with yourself.

You should always be able to say, “I like me.”

IBow-Tie tired in the umbrella like me.

And, I like you too.

Thanks for being my friend.

Love you!

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – July 10, 2017

Bow-Tie wants you to guess his age
Dear Everyone,

Guess how old I am.

Look closely at my face and see if you can guess.

I look good for my age, so don’t be fooled.

Give up?

I am 9 1/2 years old.

Why have I revealed my age?

Because I am considered a senior cat.

Any cat over the age of 8 (7.5 is close enough) is considered to be a senior.

Senior cats are often overlooked in shelters, because of their age.

I’m here to dispel that myth!

Bow-Tie in the beginningI was 7 1/2 years old when I came into Cat Depot, and considered a senior.

At that time I didn’t look very good, and I felt even worse.

Someone gave this senior a chance, and now I have a wonderful life.

My mission is to help other cats, particularly special needs cats.

But seniors need help too.

So, today I want to introduce some of my senior friends.

My hope is someone will fall in love with each one of them and give them a furever home.

AslanThis is Aslan.

Aslan came to Cat Depot as a stray.

He had a home at one time.

We don’t know how he ended up a stray.

He is a little shy, because he’s new in the shelter, but an ear rub makes him your best friend.

Aslan is 10 1/2 years young.

GraceThis is Grace.

Grace was surrendered by her family because of allergies.

She is understandably confused and stressed, having lost her home.

She loves attention and would adjust purrfectly into a quiet new home.

Grace is 8 years young.

Patty CakesThis is Patty Cakes. Feel free to shorten that to Patty if you wish.

Patty Cake’s purrson had to go to a nursing home, and she came to Cat Depot.

She is sad for her purrson, and sad for herself.

Some of the other cats told her she wouldn’t get a home, because she is 11 years old.

She told them 11 is middle age for a cat, and to hiss off!

Patty Cakes is a sweet old girl.

Torrie DetectiveHere is Torrie the Detective.

Torrie isn’t really a detective, she just played one recently at Critter Camp.

She was a great helper and is a sweet girl who loves a good head rub.

She is special needs.

She doesn’t have a tail and sometimes leaves little treasures outside the litter box.

Torrie is 8 1/2 years young.

Mattie with bow tieAnd finally, here is Mattie.

She’s sporting a bow tie in an effort to get adopted.

She’s in the “chubby kitty pod” but that just means there is more of her to love!

Mattie is social and affectionate, and 7 1/2 years young.

(If she gets adopted, I’ll make sure she gets a better looking bow tie. Good try anyway, Mattie.)

So, here’s the information on adopting a senior cat:

The event is called the Cat Depot Classic

It happens Friday, July 14 at 11 AM until July 16 at 5 PM.

The reduced adoption fee for senior cats 8 years and older (7 1/2 is close enough) will be $25.00

With each Senior Adoption you will get:

A clinic visit certificate worth $30.00

A gift bag including a bed, bowls, treat, etc worth $40.00

Marianne and Bow-TieMiss Marianne helped me with my adoption papers when I was 7 1/2 years old.

We were both very happy I found my furever home.

She and many others are waiting to help YOU adopt a senior cat.

Do it for me.

Do it for yourself.

Most of all, do it for a senior cat!

Love you!

Bow-Tie brought his flag outHappy 4th of July, Everyone!

It’s Independence Day weekend.

Hope you all have your flags out.

Mine is displayed proudly.

Bow-Tie thinks about barbecueThis is a holiday for fireworks, parades, and barbecues.

The barbecue part is my favorite.

Barbecued tuna… try it, you’ll like it.

Bow-Tie hiding from the firewoksYou know what’s not my favorite part?

Fireworks.

Fireworks make me scream!

Pets don’t like loud noises and fireworks are certainly loud.

Please make sure you protect your pets and make them feel safe.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan

Pet them, play with them, and put a loving arm around them.

If you are calm, they will be calm.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – June 26, 2017

Bow-Tie has the Monday grumpiesDear Everyone,

On most days I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky cat.

Today I’m feeling a little grumpy.

Last Friday was National Take Your Dog to Work Day.

What happened to Take Your CAT to Work Day??

I resent not being included in the day, because I’m a very hard working cat.

I deserve to be taken to work and have been on many occasions.

Bow-Tie on the jobFor instance, I have helped out in pet retail stores.

They needed my advice on cat food as well as name tags.

Bow-Tie helping out at the cleanersLocal cleaners have asked me to help them.

They appreciated my debonair bow ties and ability to work a crowd.

Bow-Tie on radio showOn many occasions I have helped out at local radio shows.

As spokescat for special needs cats, that’s really important.

Bow-Tie working a cat showCat shows are good acts for me.

I am a real crowd pleaser.

Bow-Tie with money he collectedMy ability to get funding for special needs cats is without compare.

No cat spends more time talking up special needs.

Bow-Tie at J'DubsAnd then there was that day at the brewery…

…who could forget that day?

I was a bit tired (yes, just tired) but still got the job done.

Don’t let me go on and on… you get the idea.

Why can’t it be National Take Your Dog OR Cat to Work Day?

Or, why can’t cats have their own day?

Bow-Tie on the jobI hereby declare next year cats will be included!

Who’s with me?

Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie with his number tieDear Friends,

Happy Father’s Day!

I know you’re not all fathers, but that’s okay.

I’m not even sure if I’m a father. Ha!

See the numbers on my bow tie?

You know why I’m wearing this one today?

Because I’ve been doing a little math.

Bow-TieDid you know that two cats and their children can produce two million kittens in eight years?

That’s a shocking number, I know, but do the math.

Get your calculator out.

Assume two litters per year and three surviving kittens per litter.

Start calculating.

Bow-Tie is sadIt makes me sad to think there are so many kittens and so few homes.

Cats do what cats do.

That’s just nature.

The good news is, you can stop the over-population!

Us cats may not like the procedure, but we will thank you for caring.

Neuter us!

There, I’ve said it.

Ouch… but thanks!

Bow Tie says, "Please spay and neuter your pets"Many, many clinics offer low cost spaying and neutering.

Some offer free spaying and neutering.

The humans at Cat Depot can help you with information.

(Don’t ask the cats there, they may feel otherwise.) Ha!

Bow-Tie approves of this messageSo, celebrate fathers today…

…but don’t let your cat be one.

This is a Bow-Tie approved message!

Have a happy week!

Love you all,

Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – June 12th, 2017

Bow-Tie with his music bow tieHello My Friends!

How do you like this bow tie?

It’s my musical bow tie.

I’m wearing it, because I’m singing a happy tune now that I’m well.

Bow-Tie enjoys the musicMy radio is playing some of my favorite tunes…

…namely:

Alley Cat (though these are just cats who haven’t found their home yet)

What’s New Pussy Cat? (and believe me, we have lots of good news – or should I say mews)

And then there’s Cats the Musical – that has some great cat tunes in it

Did I say before I’m singing a happy tune now that I’m healthy?

Well, yes I am, and here’s proof.

Bow-Tie sings along

May I also say I have perfect pitch!

Everybody is happy that I’m feeling better and things are back to normal.

I sing, but Courage is more refined.

Courage poses on the piano

She enjoys classical piano music.

Bow-Tie sitting by the radioSmart people know cats and music.

Albert Schweitzer said this:

“There are two refuges from the miseries of life – music and cats.”

So as you go into this week, sing a happy tune, even if you’re a little off-key.

You will feel better and so will the world.

Bow-Tie likes musicAnd remember:

“Cats are like music. It’s foolish trying to explain their worth to someone who doesn’t appreciate them.”

(Anonymous, but endorsed by Bow-Tie.)

Love you all,

Bow-Tie with his medsI’m back!

I sure missed everyone!

Welcome to my world these past few weeks.

I have medicine going into every opening of my body.

Some of it is yucky, but it sure helps.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan checking out the medsHow about little Annie Sullivan taking over for me while I was sick?

She did a wonderful job taking care of me.

She took care of everyone else too.

Who knew such a little girl could do such a big job.

Bow-Tie looks at his cardYou know what made me feel better than any medicine?

All of the well wishes and love I received from all of you.

I even got this beautiful card in the mail.

The picture is so pretty.

Bow-Tie is happy to see everyone's signaturesBut the best part was the inside…

…it was signed by everyone at Cat Depot!

That sure made me feel loved.

Bow-Tie says love is the best medicineI keep the card with my medicine, because love is the best medicine there is!

I read it every day.

Bow-Tie posing with his cardThank you everyone for caring about me.

Annie Sullivan proud in Bow-Tie's bow tieHi Everybody!

It’s me, Annie Sullivan.

Bow-Tie is a little under the weather and I’m in charge over here.

I stole this bow tie from him, so I can write the blog real good, just like he does.

It’s Memorial Day weekend and he wanted to be sure he got his message out.

Bow-Tie is our leader and when he’s not feeling well we get a little worried.

He has a lot of yucky things that flare up from time to time, because of where he came from.

He’s getting better each day, and I’m taking care of things until he’s back.

Annie Sullivan grooms Bow-TieI’ve been taking really good care of him.

He has been sleeping a lot and hasn’t been keen on grooming, so I do it for him.

Annie Sullivan takes care of Bow-TieI keep him company all the time, so he doesn’t feel alone.

His eyes are sensitive to light right now, so he doesn’t open them very much.

I can relate to eye issues, but his will get better soon.

Annie Sullivan brings out her big girl feetBow-Tie does a lot to keep us all in line and to educate the public.

When he got sick I was happy to take over for him, but it’s a big job.

I have big paws to fill, so I put my big girl feet on. Hahaha!

Annie Sullivan and Bow-TieBow-Tie isn’t talking much these days, but he did say one thing to me as I was writing this.

He said, “Take that bow tie off.”

Uh oh.

He sure perked up when I messed with his bow ties!

I guess I’m not in charge of everything.

Bow-TieHappy Memorial Day, everyone.

Let’s all remember to remember

Love,

Bow-Tie, The Dapper Gent, and Annie Sullivan, too

Bow-Tie has new furnitureDear Friends,

We got a new cat playhouse over here this week.

It has a place for one of us to hide, and one of us to stand guard.

Bow-Tie approves of the colorI love the colorful paint job.

Blue is my favorite color.

Bow-Tie rubs his head on the tableIt provides a nice surface for rubbing my head.

Not too hard, not too soft.

Courage likes playing inside the new houseCourage enjoys playing inside.

She thinks it’s her house.

Nice frame for BlueberryBlueberry likes to pose between the legs.

She says they frame her beauty perfectly.

Synchronized jumpingI’m teaching Annie Sullivan something…

…how to jump at the same time as me, when I say “1, 2, 3.”

Bow-Tie closed the door to the girlsSometimes I get tired of these girls wanting all my attention…

…so I shut them in and lock the door on them!

The humans say this is not a cat playhouse, it’s a dining room table.

Breakfast time on the new table

I disagree.

Bow-Tie found a good spot for a napTo me it’s just a real nice place to take a little nap.

Have a colorful week!

Love,

Bow-Tie
