Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – February 27, 2017

Bow-Tie is a peacemakerHi Friends,

You know me.

I am a lover, not a fighter.

I am a peacemaker and not a troublemaker.

But I am at my wits end with one of my sisters here.

Annie Sullivan caused me all kinds of trouble this week.

First, she got herself stuck in the pantry.

Annie Sullivan in the pantry

She can’t see.

How she got up three shelves high is beyond me.

Annie Sullivan in the treat bagThere’s nothing wrong with her nose though.

She got into a bag of treats and really enjoyed herself.

Annie Sullivan all tied upThat’s not bad enough.

The next day I found her in the bathroom.

She had herself all tied up.

Annie Sullivan doing the TP-danceShe was doing what we call the TP shuffle.

And she was quite good at it.

Annie Sullivan finding a way outShe didn’t care that she was being watched.

She went right on pulling that paper around.

Annie Sullivan says she'd do it againShe showed no remorse when I asked if she was sorry.

She proudly said, “I would do it again!”

Annie Sullivan in Time OutI’m patient, but she pushed me to my limit.

I had to put her in “time out.”

I love her dearly, but she was on my last nerve.

And she was just as happy sitting there.

That is one happy little kitty with a bundle of energy!

See you all next week.

Love,

Bow-Tie

Uh oh… here he comes now.

Bow-Tie sneaking into the picturePsst…

…Annie Sullivan is way too young to handle this blog.

(Look at her. She doesn’t even realize yet I took the bow tie away.)’Hehehe.

Bow-Tie getting his licker readyGuess what’s coming up next week?

I’m getting my licker ready to go, because it’s Valentine’s Day!

Bow-Tie kissing Annie SullivanI don’t have a girlfriend, but it’s the day of love for any friend.

I love little Annie Sullivan and love to take care of her.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – October 24, 2016

Bow-Tie needs to address something importantHi my friends!

Can I talk to you about something very serious?

This time of the year everybody is talking about Trick or Treat.

I don’t like tricks.

Bow-Tie thinks of treatsBut I sure do like treats!

Bow-Tie talks about cat treatsCat treats, that is.

Cat treats are the only ones we cats should eat.

Bow-Tie reads the labelI’m always careful to read the label before I eat anything.

Bow-Tie tests treats for CourageI’m also very good at protecting my sisters from bad things.

I do taste tests for them. (Hee hee)

Candy is not good for cats.

Humans have to be especially careful this time a year.

There is an abundance of candy around and we are, after all, curious cats.

Sugar is never good, chocolate is often toxic, and all kinds of bad things can happen.

Bow-Tie has a serious discussion about cat treatsChocolate covered raisins are a double whammy.

They can cause kidney failure.

Please protect your kitties this season.

No candy for cats.

Cat treats only, please.

Annie Sullivan compliments Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie writes a good blog, doesn’t he?

He’s too humble to say so himself, but I’m not!

And now he’s embarrassed.

But I think Bow-Tie rules!

Love from both of us,

Bow-Tie (and me, Annie Sullivan)

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – October 10, 2016

Dear Everyone,

There is always something going on over here.

Usually I’m in the business of promoting special needs cats.

But, this week something kind of special happened.

We got a house guest I didn’t see coming (pun intended, which you will get later.)

Meet Madeline.

Bow-Tie has a house guest

Yes, Madeline is a dog.

Yes, Madeline is giving me a kiss.

Madeline isn’t just any dog.

She is being trained and will grow up to be a guide dog for the blind.

It’s our job to teach her here for 14 months.

When she leaves us she will have a very important life ahead of her.

Madeline and Annie SullivanIn the meantime, she is here and quickly found her favorite feline.

Was it me? No. It’s Annie Sullivan.

Annie Sullivan loved her immediately, and they played continually.

Paw-cleaning in progressAnnie has already taught Madeline how to clean her paws.

Madeline caught onto that one quickly.

I ask you, how sweet is it that a blind cat is training a seeing eye dog?

Bow-Tie instructs the childrenSince Annie was set on being the trainer…

…I lined them up and told them I would be watching their every move.

Madeline and Annie SullivanNothing gets by me.

No matter where they are, I’m watching from afar.

Annie Sullivan pats Madeline on the noseMadeline is very sweet with Annie.

Annie always thanks her with a soft pat on the nose.

Madeline brought a toy for Annie SullivanThis is a lesson for all of us.

Annie has physical limitations, but there are no limitations on love.

Annie is able to express herself, share, and love without eyes.

Madeline watches over Annie SullivanSee, love comes in all shapes and sizes.

And four-legged fur creatures express it the best.

Until next week.

Love,

Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – August 22, 2016

Hi Everyone,

What a fun week I’ve had!

I’m feeling great, and I got a new toy.

Usually I don’t play with toys, but this one has me hooked.

We have the garage all set up as a kitty playroom.

Sometimes I go out there to see what the youngsters are all excited about.

There it was, dangling from the scratching post.

I was intrigued.

It’s not much to look at, but I gave it a whack just to entertain Mixie and Annie.Bow-Tie playing

(Please pardon the view you’re getting in this photo. It’s somewhat embarrassing.)

Bow-Tie and a new toyWhen I hit it, it spun out of control and the chase was on.

It’s just a wire with some doodads on the ends, but it flies like the wind.

Annie Sullivan playingAnnie Sullivan heard it flying around and wanted to check it out.

Courage and Bow-Tie playingCourage heard it too and she caught it in mid-air.

Courage and Annie Sullivan playingThe girls took over for a little while.

It was cute that they could both hear it, and they played together with it.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan sneaking on the toyAnnie and I hid and stalked it.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan conquered the toyAnd the victory was ours.

I love it.

It’s a Cat Dancer Interactive Cat Toy.

If you don’t have one, tell your humans to go out right now and get you one.

Check the Cat Depot Gift Shop first!

If they don’t have them yet, tell them it has the Bow-Tie paw of approval and to get some!

Bow-Tie is tired from playingIt uses a lot of energy, is good exercise…

…and wears a guy out.

It’s a good thing.

See you next week!

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – July 25, 2016

Hi Everyone,

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan on the counterThis was both a learning and an adventure week.

It all started when the doorbell rang.

Annie Sullivan and I were both on alert, because we didn’t know who was there.

A lot of people come to see me because I’m so famous (hee hee).

But I didn’t have anyone on my calendar.

I was confused.

Annie Sullivan whispers to Bow-TieLittle Annie Sullivan had to help me out.

She whispered, “It’s for me, it’s my Foster Mom!”

Foster Mom?

What’s a Foster Mom?

Bow-Tie explainsI had to do a little research on that one.

Turns out a Foster Mom (or Dad) is a very important person.

They provide temporary safe and loving homes for cats not ready for adoption.

Not ready for adoption means they are too young, too sick, or have behavioral challenges.

Foster parents take them into their home and help them get ready for their adoptive homes.

Little Annie Sullivan was too young and her eyes too infected for her to be at Cat Depot.

She went to live with her Foster Mom until her eyes got better and she became a few weeks older.

Her Foster Mom loved her and took good care of her.

She wanted to come and see how Annie was doing.

Annie Sullivan and her foster momIt brought a tear to my eye when I saw Annie reunited with her Foster Mom Karyn.

Annie remembered her and started purring right away.

Foster Mom Karyn was really happy to see how well Annie is doing in her forever home.

I learned a lot about Foster Parents.

People can be Foster Parents for a few days, weeks, or months.

They can foster newborns, kittens, cats, special needs, injured, or the behavior challenged.

Annie Sullivan plays with her foster momI also learned that Foster Moms bring toys for everyone when they visit!

They like to play with their foster kitties.

Foster moms bring treatsMore importantly (to me anyway)…

…Foster Moms bring food and treats!

Bow-Tie breaks into the food bagI found out Foster Moms let you do things you usually don’t get to do!

It’s really easy and anyone can be a Foster Parent.

Cat Depot offers a one hour class that tells people everything they need to know.

Fostering a cat or kitten will change your life and the life of the cat.

Foster mom kisses Annie SullivanAnnie Sullivan will always love her Foster Mom Karyn.

Obviously the feeling is mutual.

Everyone should find out about the Foster Program.

Change your life and the life of your foster kitty!

Thank you, Foster Mom Karyn.

You gave Annie Sullivan the good start she needed for a good life.

Bow-Tie kisses Annie SullivanI’ll take it from here…

…I’ve got her now.

Love and thanks to all Foster Parents and to everyone else.

See you next week.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – July 18, 2016

Hi Everyone,

A caretaker’s work is never done.

I’m proof of that, because this weekend I was really caretaking.

My workload is already pretty full with the girls in the house.

But this weekend I did double-duty.

My old friend Topo spent the weekend with me.

Bow-Tie and Topo

He’s special needs, so he’s close to my heart.

We both have bad ears and aren’t too proud to show them off.

Bow-Tie and GiadaThis time Topo brought his sister, Giada.

I hadn’t met her before…

…but we became instant friends.

The girls can’t resist me, hee hee hee.

Bow-Tie says follow my leadShe was new here, so I had to tell her the rules.

Rules are simple, just follow my lead.

Giada follows Bow-TieShe quickly fell in line…

…and followed the Bow-Tie lead.

Giada and Annie SullivanThen something really funny happened.

She met little Annie Sullivan.

Annie Sullivan was really interested in her and followed her everywhere.

Giada kept trying to walk away, and Annie Sullivan was on her tail… literally.

Giada was afraid of her.

I laughed my kitty head off over that one!

IG-looTopo and Giada are Italian Greyhounds.

For short, their mom calls them “The IGs.”

When the IGs arrived, they brought their own house with them.

Does that make their house an IG-loo?

Hee hee hee

Bow-Tie tries the dog foodThey had food in there too.

I tried some, but it wasn’t as good as my own.

Don’t dogs like fish?

Bow-Tie tucks Topo in for the nightWe had a good time this weekend.

I like everyone, and the IGs are two of my favorite canines.

As with all good things, our time had to end.

I made sure Topo was all tucked in for the night.

Giada gets a kitty kiss from Annie SullivanOh, you know what else happened?

Giada finally understood why Annie Sullivan was following her.

She just wanted to give her a kitty kiss.

Bow-tie gets a doggy kissIt was a good weekend and there was a lot of love over here.

Just the way I like it.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – July 11, 2016

Bow-Tie by the poolDear Everyone,

I have one word for this week – HOT.

As in, it’s hot outside.

As in, be careful, because it’s hot outside.

On the weekends i usually like to go out into the sunshine.

It feels good to be outside.

Many cats in Florida have caged-in lanais so they can go to the back yard without getting lost.

Annie Sullivan in a beach chairMy sisters like it too.

Everything is new and exciting to little Annie Sullivan.

Courage in a beach chairCourage loves to put her face up to the sun and feel the warmth.

How she can stand it in that long fur coat is beyond me.

Bow-Tie likes to watch the waterMy place to enjoy the sun is by the water.

No, I do not go swimming, but I enjoy looking at the water.

Speaking of water, cats need to drink water if they are outside.

Make sure there is plenty of fresh water available if you let your cat out.

If your cat goes outside, make sure you are with them.

In this heat, make sure it’s only for a short time.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan by the poolOutside is not a good place for cats.

Cat Depot always recommends keeping cats on a leash and harness, or in an enclosed, safe area.

Keep your eye on the cats, like I do for Annie Sullivan.

Did you know cats don’t pant to cool off like a dog?

We pant and sweat through our feet.

(A big old dripping tongue hanging out is too undignified for a cat.)

Bow-Tie squints at the sunThe bright sunshine sometimes hurts our eyes too.

The famous Mighty Lou wore sunglasses.

We don’t have sunglasses and it’s just too bright.

Bow-Tie seeks out the shadeIf your cat goes outside with you, make sure they are safe and cool.

Cats are smart.

We will find a cool (or at least less hot) place to rest.

Bow-Tie talks to Annie SullivanBut then, when it’s just too hot, like it is now…

…we have a little discussion with the young ones who don’t have any sense.

We tell them the best thing to do is go inside and cool off.

Bow-Tie kisses Annie SullivanWe wipe the tears away from the crying young ones who don’t want to stop playing.

And we go inside, out of the heat.

See you next week.

Be cool!

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – July 5, 2016

Bow-Tie in red white and blueHi Everyone and Happy Holiday Weekend!

I enjoy the red, white, and blue theme as I am an All American Cat.

We’re usually called Domestic Cat because we’re not a specific breed; we’re all mixed up.

The term All American just seems to fit better.

Besides, I like red, white, and blue.

Bow-Tie and Annie SullivanPeople tend to get together this weekend for fun in the sun.

I took little Annie Sullivan out in the sun too.

She likes the warmth, even though she can’t see the beauty of outdoors.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan enjoying the sunShe likes to play with me, so why not catch some rays while we do it?

Bow-Tie kissing Annie SullivanPeople are all geared up for hot dogs and ice cream this weekend.

Me?

I’ve got my licker going too, but it’s for something much sweeter than ice cream.

Annie Sullivan needs a protector and that’s what I do best.

Bow-Tie with a beach umbrellaThis weekend people think about and thank the men and women who make our country safe.

Us cats think about the humans and organizations that make us safe.

We need to be protected, loved, and to be safe.

Thanks to you all who do such a good job doing just that – keeping us safe!

Bow-Tie and Helen KellerDear Everyone,

If you know anything about me, you know I am a lover.

I am a caretaker. I am a giver. I am a nurturer.

I love special needs kitties and love to care for them.

This is my beloved Helen keller.

When I lost her, I lost a piece of my heart.

Courage and Blueberry are pretty independent and don’t need me.

I was sad.

Sad until…

Annie Sullivan

…this little girl popped into the picture!

Bow-Tie and Annie SullivanThis is Annie Sullivan, named after Helen Keller’s beloved teacher.

Annie Sullivan is blind, but that doesn’t stop her.

She loves to play.

I am sharing all of my toys with her.

I even bring them to her if she can’t find them.

Bow-Tie kissing Annie SullivanShe is very active.

Too active maybe, but she’s young.

Sometimes I have to hold her down to give her a bath.

Annie Sullivan fell asleep playingThen just when I think she will never stop playing…

…she falls asleep in the middle of a game.

Finally I can get a little cat nap.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan in the sunI am helping her explore the world.

She likes to go outside in the sun.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan in the strollerShe likes to go for rides.

I use any opportunity to give her some lovin’.
