Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – May 15, 2017

Bow-Tie with flowersDear Friends,

It’s Mother’s Day.

Today, mothers all over will get gifts.

Some gifts are useful and thoughtful.

Some gifts… not so much.

So, what do you get for a mother?

Flowers seem to be the number once choice.

Flowers say, “I love you,” but the pretty dies pretty quickly.

Bow-Tie with fruitThere’s the Fruit of the Month club…

…but nobody likes that.

It’s just too much fruit!

Bow-Tie with jewelryThen there are the sparkly trinkets.

The ladies always go for jewelry.

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions.

What to get that says just the right thing, and will last long after Mother’s Day ends?

I have a great idea!

Let me show you.

Bow-Tie searches in his boxI have to get it out…

…it’s way down at the bottom of this box.

Mixie in a boxHere it is!

The purrfect gift!

Adopt a kitty!

Courage in the boxNow, that would be the purrfect gift for any mother!

There’s one for everybody.

They come in different colors and sizes, so she can pick the purrfect one.

Mixie finds modeling tiringLet’s all shout it out…

…Happy Mother’s Day!

See you next week.

Bow-Tie loves his dogDear Friends,

I can’t say it enough.

I’m a lover.

No matter who is around, I want to love on them.

As you know, I’m watching over a dog for a while.

She loves me, and I love her.

No matter where I go to sleep…

…you can be sure she will snuggle up with me.

She’s sweet.

Bow-Tie kisses a dogSometimes I give her kisses.

She likes it.

Bow-Tie gets a kissSometimes she gives me kisses.

I like it too.

The things that happen when you're not looking...When I’m not paying attention to her…

…she seems to be sad.

Bow-Tie's dog wants to be closerShe nuzzles me to get my attention.

Sweet, right?

Bow-Tie is tricked by the dogThat’s what I thought at first, too.

But the closer she got, the more I knew she had other ideas.

Bow-Tie is tricked by the dogShe was after my bow tie!

Thinking she would give up, I didn’t move.

Bow-Tie is tricked by the dogAnd she didn’t give up.

She was going to go all the way.

I still didn’t budge, though.

Bow-Tie loves his dogWould she really do it?

Yes, she did!

And I hang my head in shame.

I was outsmarted by a dopey dog!

How embarrassing.

See you next week.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – May 1, 2017

Dear Friends,

Bow-Tie voicing his opinionI just heard Cat Depot had a Volunteer Appreciation Banquet the other day. They honored all the people who give their time to help the cats.

I said, “Hey…

…what about cats who help cats?”

I’m out there busting my tail all the time to help my feline friends!

Bow-Tie delivers carriers for catsFor one, I started the Carriers for Cats Program and purrsonally delivered the first load.

These donated carriers have helped a lot of cats so far this year.

Bow-Tie works on the Giving ChallengeThe Giving Challenge brought a lot of money into Cat Depot from various foundations.

Purrsonally, I think it was only such a success because of my handsome mug on the literature.

Bow-Tie collects money for cats in needAll the local cat shows know I’ll show up with my donation box.

People can’t resist my sweet smile and gentle ways.

Bow-Tie with his tribute beerThen there are those local businesses who want my presence.

Get a bottle, slap a “Bow-Tie Brew” label on it, and it’s a success!

Bow-Tie and PetuniaSometimes I let my friend Petunia share the limelight.

And yes, she likes it when I sit on her head.

Bow-Tie assists at an art workshopMy talents are limitless.

I have even been known to assist at art workshops

So here’s to the volunteers who make Cat Depot so successful!

Thank you!

Well done, humans!

And here’s to the little guy who overcame the adversities of life to be a volunteer.

Here’s to four paws on the ground at all times, to help other kitties wherever I can.

Bow-Tie is exhausted

It’s all in the life’s work of me, Bow-Tie.

Happy week, everyone!

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – April 24, 2017

Bow-Tie likes to lickHi Friends,

Licking.

Licking.

Licking.

Licking is part of who a cat is, and what we do.

Bow-Tie has advice to shareHumans sometimes don’t understand our licking.

I’ll try to explain it to you.

I’m one of the all-time champion lickers, so I feel equipped to answer the age old question.

Why do cats lick?

Bow-Tie kisses Helen KellerLicking helps us mark our territory.

If we love someone (kitty or human), we lick to put our scent on them.

That tells intruders, “She’s mine, stay away.”

Bow-Tie says licking is loveWe lick to show our affection to another kitty.

Our mothers licked us when we were small, so we pass on that love.

Bow-Tie is a lickerWhy we lick humans?

It’s our form of petting.

We like it when humans pet us.

When we lick, it is a way for us to pet the humans we like.

Bow-Tie licks his human momIf you have a licker like me, you may have experienced some minor pain.

You know what I mean.

Our tongues have little barbs on them for grooming.

Those little barbas can hurt if we lick you long enough.

Right?

Please don’t reprimand us, we’re just showing you we love you.

Just start petting us and we will probably trade the licking for petting.

(Just a tip from inside the kitty kingdom.)

Bow-Tie exercising the lickerSo next time your cat’s tongue comes out, think about what I’ve told you.

We love you, we’re being affectionate, and we’re marking you as “ours.”

Grin and bear it, because the love is worth the pain.

Love you!

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan playingHappy Easter, everyone!

This is Annie Sullivan’s first Easter.

To make it special for her, we got her some Easter decorations.

At first she wasn’t quite sure of the texture the pretty grass offered.

She pushed it around and seemed very interested in this new feeling.

Annie Sullivan plays with the grassShe experiences things with her mouth to see what they are.

I told her this grass isn’t edible, and not to chew it.

Bow-Tie tells Annie Sullivan not to eat the grassShe didn’t listen.

When they don’t listen, youngsters sometimes have to find things out the hard way.

She learned Easter grass is not for eating.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan playingShe was still very interested in the texture of the grass.

She started flinging it around pretty good.

Annie Sullivan dresses Bow Tie in Easter grassI think I actually heard her laughing as she tossed it on me.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan playingShe tried to pat me and say she was sorry.

She’s young.

It’s Easter.

I was very willing to forgive her.

Bow-Tie and Annie SullivanBut then…

…then…

…I saw the silly look on her face, like she was all proud of herself…

…and she would do it again.

But I forgave her.

She’s young.

I love her.

And it’s Easter.

Bow-Tie and Annie Sullivan taking a cat napThen we had a nice little Easter catnap.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Don’t eat the grass.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – April 10, 2017

Hi Everyone,

I’m a bit of a worrier.

I like everything to be right with the world.

Aside from being concerned at times, I do try to look on the bright side of things.

There’s always time…

Look at the beauty!

…to look at the beauty around us.

Stop and smell the flowers! There’s always time…

…to stop and smell the roses, or orchids, or whatever these are.

Play with the flowersThere’s always time…

…to play with the pretty things of nature.

Just one little lick...But did you know beauty can be deadly?

One little lick of the wrong plant or flower can make a cat sick.

Beautiful, but deadlyActually, eating a lot of a toxic plant…

…can be fatal to a feline.

I'm a cat, I just have toAnd you know what?

Cats will be cats, so you’ll just have to watch them around plants.

They will tell you, “I won’t, I won’t, I won’t.”

But they’re cats.

They will.

Always someone plotting...Just when you think your pretty spring bouquets are safe…

…there’s a feline somewhere, plotting how to swoop in!

Be safe.

Keep your cats safe.

Enjoy your spring flowers and plants, but keep them away from feline munchers.

They’re everywhere!

Until next week.

Love,

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – April 3, 2017

Bow-Tie shows his angry faceThis is my angry face…

It’s not often I get angry, but I was pretty annoyed this week.

Especially on Saturday.

It was April Fool’s Day, and I was the recipient of a practical joke.

It was dinner time.

I look forward to that every day.

But on April Fool’s Day, this is what I found on my plate.

Bow-Tie's food is in a can

This was not amusing, and I was not laughing.

Bow-Tie got a can openerTo add insult to injury…

…now I have the can opener, but no thumbs!

Bow-Tie got silverwareOk. Where do we go from here?

Silverware?

Really?

Still no thumbs!

Bow-Tie is angryThis whole situation was making me angry.

Could it get any worse?

Bow-Tie got a dog boneYes, it could…

…and this is a new low.

A dog bone.

Bow-Tie can't eat a crinkle ballThen things started looking up a little.

I love my crinkle balls, but I can’t eat them.

Bow-Tie finally got foodFinally…

…I got to chow down on some real food.

This makes me happy!

Bow Tie says not to get between a boy and his foodNever get between a boy and his food!

Not even on April Fool’s Day.

Have a happy week.

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – March 27, 2017

Bow-Tie looks cute for his blogDear Friends,

I am so excited and anxious to share this news!

It’s about my most important mission….

…getting special needs cats adopted.

I work hard to help find my special needs friends (Friends Like Me) forever homes.

Everywhere I go I spread the news, ask for donations, and pass out literature.

Bow-Tie's bow tie is spinningWell, guess what?

There are only two special needs cats left at Cat Depot right now!

All the rest of them have been adopted!

That makes me so happy my bow tie is spinning!

But, there are still two Friends Like Me kitties there who need homes.

Please let me introduce them.

Torrie longs for a homeThis is Torrie, a beautiful and refined lady who likes head and chin scratches.

She would be comfortable curling up on your bed for a nap.

Torrie is 8.5 years young.

Sadly, she was relinquished because of inconsistent litter box use.

As if often the case, the cause was medical and not behavioral.

She has proper litter box habits now when she is well.

She is on a prescription diet to battle her (sorry, folks) constipation.

Torrie has someone who will pay her adoption fee when she finds her forever home.

Bonanza longs to find a familyNow meet Bonanza…

…how pretty is she?!?

Bonanza is an affectionate girl who enjoys attention and human interaction.

She likes to rub against people and encourage them to pet her.

Bonanza is 7.5 years young.

She has some spine issues and arthritis, but doesn’t let that stop the outflow of love.

She is on kidney supplements (sprinkled on her food) and a special dry diet.

Bow-Tie counts his moneyAs I write this, Bonanza just plucked one of my heart strings.

Do you know what I’m going to do?

I checked my stash, and I have enough to purrsonally pay for Bonanza’s adoption.

We just need someone to come and fall in love with her, and take her home.

Will you be that someone?

Please go to Cat Depot and see both Torrie and Bonanza.

The adoption fees will be paid.

The special needs food is not expensive.

The love these two girls have to share is priceless.

Bow-Tie loves his jobThis is why I love what I do.

I help my Friends Like Me kitties find loving homes.

I’ll sleep good tonight.

Love,

Bow-Tie

Bow-Tie’s Bulletin – March 20, 2017

Bow-Tie wants to talkHi Everyone,

I have a question.

What is the spring equinox?

Everyone talks about it, saying it happens on Monday, March 20.

They say the sun will shine directly on the equator on that day.

They say the length of night and day will be nearly equal on that day.

Bow-Tie enjoys the sunI say, forget about all the facts, research, and talk about the equinox.

Just go outside and look at the sun.

You’ll see it’s out there.

It’s warm.

It’s for everyone.

It’s that simple.

Bow-Tie wonders why humans complicate everythingIt confuses me why humans make everything so complicated.

Cats keep things simple and in perspective.

Bow-Tie finds the weather deliciousThe sunshine?

It’s simply delicious!

Bow-Tie enjoys the sunshineKeeping it simple in the sunshine, I am,

Bow-Tie talks about daylight savings timeHi Everyone,

Guess what time it is?

It’s time to change those clocks again.

Bow-Tie changes his clockTime for everyone to run around…

…and spin the hands on their clocks.

But that’s a human thing.

Cats are different.

Bow-Tie says it's time to eatWe think of only two things when we look at the clock.

One is… it’s time to EAT!

Bow-Tie changes his clockThe second is more frequent and just as important.

When we look at the clock we know what we need to do up to 16 hours a day.

Bow-Tie says it's time to sleepWhat is it?

Sleep, of course.

For a cat, it’s always a good time to sleep.

Bow-Tie wishes happy clock-change-dayWatch your cats today.

Their schedule will stay the same, even though you changed the clock.

How do we do that???

Happy Clock Change Day!
